The Marriage Care/Plater Trust project finalised with a two-day colloquium entitled “Opportunity, Authority, Spirituality and Identity”. This gathering gave the teams the opportunity to present the data which had been collected from the interviews with a number of marriage preparation couples, facilitators and clergy.
Reflection upon this data had led to the identification of four major themes which the colloquium focused on. These were as follows:
- Theme 1: Catholic Social Thought, ‘Catholic Ethos’ and relationship poverty
- Theme 2: Marriage – doctrine and practice for the ‘ordinary Catholic’
- Theme 3: Formation and Pedagogy for practices of family and relationship
- Theme 4: Clergy and laity working together: the wider ecclesiological question
Marriage Care have taken these four themes very seriously. Since the colloquium the charity has already begun making significant changes. They are currently working on the development of Catholic formation at the charity, particularly among its marriage preparation providers.
